History

South Elgin was incorporated as a village in 1897. The community grew along the Fox River, originally as a mill town and farming community. The Fox River Trolley Museum preserves the area’s transportation heritage with vintage trolley rides along the river. Significant residential growth since the 1990s has transformed South Elgin into a vibrant suburban village.

Location & Commute

South Elgin sits along the Fox River in eastern Kane County, approximately 38 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. The village enjoys excellent access via Route 31, Randall Road, and Route 20. I-90 (Jane Addams Memorial Tollway) is nearby for commuters heading east.
