History & Heritage

Winfield was settled in the 1830s and incorporated as a village in 1921. Named after General Winfield Scott, the village has maintained a rural, small-town character despite suburban growth around it. The Winfield Historical Society preserves the community’s heritage. Central DuPage Hospital (now Northwestern Medicine) was established here in 1964 and remains a major employer and healthcare resource.
