History & Heritage

Downers Grove was founded in 1832 by Pierce Downer, a New Yorker who settled along the East Branch of the DuPage River. The village was incorporated in 1873 and has grown steadily into one of DuPage County’s most desirable communities. The Downers Grove Historical Society preserves the village’s heritage through the Blodgett House and the Victorian-era Downers Grove Museum campus.

Location & Commute

Downers Grove is located in southern DuPage County, approximately 22 miles west of Chicago. The village benefits from excellent transportation access including I-355, I-88, and Ogden Avenue (Route 34). Three Metra stations on the BNSF line — Main Street, Fairview, and Belmont — provide commuter rail service to Chicago Union Station in about 30 minutes.
