West Chicago has deep railroad roots dating to the 1840s when the Galena and Chicago Union Railroad established a junction here. Originally known as Turner Junction, the city was renamed West Chicago in 1896. The city’s railroad heritage is celebrated at the West Chicago Railroad Museum.
