Tara Hills is the east-side neighborhood I show buyers who want range—it runs from townhomes in the high $300s to two-story singles into the $600s, all inside one community east of LaGrange Road (US-45), south of 191st Street. The subdivision dates to 1992 and built out through the mid 2000s, roughly 320 properties across streets with Irish names like Tramore, Clare, and Tara. The mix is unusual for Mokena: two-story singles, all-brick ranches, and townhomes sharing the same neighborhood.
What sets Tara Hills apart right now is the new construction. In 2024 the community added attached duplex ranch homes with full basements on Willow Lane—main-level living, roughly 1,700 to 2,000 square feet, listing from $552,900 with the model at $665,000. That’s the exact product Mokena downsizers ask for and almost never find new, and it brought fresh attention to the whole neighborhood. On the resale side, townhomes on Tramore Lane have listed in the $380s and detached homes have closed from the low $400s to the low $600s, with the community’s trailing sales running roughly $371,000 to $772,805.
Two practical notes. First, fees: detached homes carry no association fee, while attached homes run roughly $150 to $225 per month depending on section, covering exterior grounds, lawn, and snow. Second, schools: Tara Hills sits in Summit Hill School District 161—not Mokena 159—and feeds Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfort. That surprises buyers who assume every Mokena address feeds the same schools, and it matters for both the assignment and the tax bill, so we verify it on every showing.

Downtown Mokena and the Front Street district are about five minutes northwest—Tribes Beer Company, The Dock on Front Street, and the Saturday farmers market in season. Frankfort’s downtown and the Old Plank Road Trail are just as close in the other direction.
Both Rock Island District stations are a short drive; Hickory Creek near I-80 has the big parking supply. Roughly an hour to LaSalle Street on locals, less on expresses.
US-45 connects north to I-80 at the village’s edge, with I-355 one exit west. US-30 runs along the south side of the neighborhood toward Frankfort and New Lenox. Downtown Chicago is about 35 miles.
